Analytically Expressed Dispersion Diagram of Unit Cells for a Novel Type of Holographic Surface

Abstract: A novel type of surface-impedance modulation mechanism for designing of microstrip-technology-based surface-waveexcited holographic antennas is proposed. The advanced radiating geometry consists of quasi-periodic arrangement of unit cells operating in the leaky-wave region. Flexible design requires a considerable numerical effort determining the dispersion characteristics of any possible unit cell present in the geometry. In this context, an analytic determination of the dispersion diagram for a unit cell with… Show more

“…The unit cell of dimension D u =D v =4 mm contains a modulated microstrip line whose width varies between w min =0.2 and w max =3.8 mm. The variation has been chosen in such a way, that for the flat case it guarantees a sinusoidal variation of the effective dielectric constant [6].…”

“…In the Cartesian coordinate system all unit cells have the same rectangular shape with edges of length of D u = 4.5 mm, D v = 4 mm. The shape of the metallic conductors has been designed according to the procedure described in [6], [8], where the effective dielectric constant within the unit cell varies according to the expression:…”
