This study is aimed at investigating what has happened to the dynamic linkages between foreign direct investment (FDI) and tourism development in China since the emergence of the so-called new normal economy. A time-varying parameter vector autoregressive (TVP-VAR) model is used for the first time to analyze the equi-spaced and time-point impulse responses between FDI, foreign exchange earnings from international tourism (FEE), and gross domestic product using annual data taken from 1983 to 2017. The results for the equi-spaced impulse response show that a difference in intensity for the interaction effect between FDI and FEE will change with different intervals. In addition, impulse response diagrams for FDI and FEE based on changes in economic development at three significant points in time reveal that the effect FDI in the new normal period has had the greatest impact on FEE in 2012, followed in decreasing impact by 2003 and then 1997.

People's Republic of China is the largest, Slovenia is the 64th and Montenegro is the 162nd largest export economy in the world. Methods of analysis, deduction and induction and comparative method were used in this paper. The paper reviews and analyzes statistical data of international trade with China as well as of Chinese outbound tourism and provides an estimate of what share Slovenia and Montenegro received. Starting off with the research question 'Are the revenue from the export of China and revenue from Chinese inbound tourism ('invisible export') in gross domestic product (GDP) growing?' we have concluded that China is becoming a more important partner for both countries. There is a strong positive correlation between exports in China and the number of overnights of Chinese tourists both in Slovenia and Montenegro and that expenditure of Chinese tourists visiting these two countries increases every year as well. Expenditure and share of expenditure of Chinese tourists visiting Slovenia and Montenegro in Chinese exports increase every year. Share of expenditure of Chinese tourists and export in Chinese GDP increase every year.

Tourism and Economic Growth: Assessing the Significance of Sustainable Competitiveness Using a Dynamic Panel Data Approach

This study explores the tourism‐led growth hypothesis (TLGH) by assessing the moderating role of sustainable competitiveness across 203 countries from 2000 to 2019. Utilizing the system generalized method of moments (SYS‐GMM) approach, the analysis confirms that tourism contributes positively to economic growth, with variations observed across different income levels and degrees of competitiveness. The findings indicate that both low‐ and high‐income countries experience enhanced economic benefits from tourism when competitiveness is prioritized. The study underscores the importance of developing sustainable competitiveness strategies as a means to amplify tourism's positive effects on economic growth. These insights provide a valuable basis for policymakers aiming to leverage tourism as a catalyst for sustainable economic development across diverse national contexts.
