Analyzing the Potential for Utilization of New Renewable Energy to Support the Electricity System in the Cianjur Regency Region

Abstract: Energy is one of the basic human needs to support activities whose numbers continue to increase along with population and economic growth. On the other hand, most of the energy used today comes from fossil-based energy which has non-renewable properties so its reserves will run out if used continuously. Indonesia in general and the Cianjur region of West Java Province, in particular, has a wide variety of potential for new and renewable energy spread over most of its territory, including solar energy, wind ene… Show more

“…Moreover, the transition to new renewable energy could improve Indonesia's energy security should oil-exporting countries impose an embargo. [3] Indonesia has a vast and diverse potential for new and renewable energy (EBT), including solar electric energy. Solar power is an endless energy source because it is the most abundant energy on Earth.…”

“…The Indonesian government is proactively addressing the depletion of fossil energy resources by promoting the use of New and Renewable Energy (NRE). Currently, the Republic of Indonesia, through its Power Supply Business Plan (RUPTL), has set a target that 23% of the energy produced by 2025 must come from NRE sources [6] [7].…”

“…Switching to new and renewable energy can maintain the stability of the earth's temperature to prevent climate change. In addition, shifting to new and renewable energy can also increase energy security for Indonesia in case an oilexporting country imposes an embargo [6]. Of course, it would be regrettable if Indonesia, which is predicted to have promising new renewable energy potential, actually experiences an energy crisis in the future.…”
