Objective: To determine the morphological variations and location of pterion in Pakistani male population. Methods: This retrospective observational study was carried out in the Department of Radiology, Shifa International Hospital from December 2018 to June 2019. The sample size was calculated by Open Epi web-based calculator. Fifty-three cranial CT scans with slice thickness of 0.5mm; consecutive scans of males were randomly selected. The patients with no craniofacial fracture and ages from 25 to 45 years were included. The dataset was obtained from Toshiba Aquilion One, 360-slice MDCT. The images were imported into the imaging software PACS (WFM), and analyzed in maximum intensity projection mode with three dimensional multiplanar reconstruction viewers. Measurements were taken in lateral projections of skull in Frankfurt plane, as horizontal and vertical distance from the posterolateral margin of frontozygomatic suture to center of pterion. Vertical distance from the superior border of zygomaticotemporal arch to the center of pterion. The morphological types were also recognized. Results: The type of pterion on right side was 94.3% sphenoparietal 5.6% epipteric whereas left side was (90.5%) sphenoparietal (3.7%) epipteric, (3.7%) stellate type, (1.8%) frontotemporal type. The mean horizontal and vertical frontozygomatic measurements on right side were 2.23±0.22cm and 1.25±0.219 cm respectively. The same measurements on the left side were 2.27-±0.25 cm and 1.226-±0.22 cm respectively. The mean zygomaticotemporal measurements on the right and left sides were 3.45±0.29cm and 3.44±0.25 cm respectively. The mean distance on right and left side of skull was statistically insignificant. Conclusion: The study provides useful data for position and location of pterion for safe neurosurgical procedures via pterion. The field of forensic anthropology is characterised by its ongoing development and growth. Forensic anatomy is a burgeoning discipline that focuses on the analysis and identification of both preserved and unpreserved human body parts, both in deceased individuals and the living. This subject plays a crucial role in establishing the four key factors of forensic anthropology, namely sex, age, race, and height. The objective of this research endeavour was to evaluate the significance of anatomical information in the process of forensic age estimation. The researchers established the inclusion criteria in accordance with the globally recognised Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome (PICOS) framework, as advised by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) recommendations. The research included many methodologies in order to ascertain the age. Upon conducting a comprehensive review of the existing literature pertaining to anatomical knowledge in the field of forensic age estimate, we have identified many notable applications. These include the utilisation of various anatomical features such as the dental pulp chamber, fingerprints, acetabulum, sternal end of the fourth rib, as well as hand and wrist bones for the purpose of age estimation. It is important for anatomists and other forensic scientists to engage in collaborative efforts to facilitate the exchange of ideas and ensure thorough investigations. This cooperation is particularly crucial in areas where anatomical sciences play a significant role in forensic science and investigation. Nevertheless, in order to mitigate the potential for estimating error, it is still advisable to use a multi-factorial evaluation approach that involves examining many body areas.

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE: The integrated curriculum adopted by the university effects the learning process of dental students. They prefer selective study of specific objectives rather than developing a deeper understanding of anatomy. Thus, students’ perceptions would be helpful in improving curriculum delivery, at university level, for beneficial future clinical roles. METHODOLOGY: A qualitative exploratory study in a dental college affiliated with regional medical university spread over three months. Second year BDS class (50 students) was purposively chosen excluding first year students. Fifteen item questionnaire was developed and distributed via Google form followed by inductive analysis. RESULTS: Forty-eight students (96%) responded. Seven themes and eighteen subthemes emerged. Three themes expressed students’ preference for group study, small group discussion and visual learning style. Content of anatomy was suggested to be divided in two years by few. In theme “Anatomy assessment weightage” majority consented on same number of multiple-choice questions of anatomy as other subjects as all found it difficult to prepare it in one day with other subjects. Most of them considered such anatomy assessment weightage to have a positive impact on their future practitioner role. CONCLUSION: Dental students are satisfied with the content of anatomy in each block. Main concern raised is misalignment between anatomy assessment weightage and its delivered content. This drives students to do selective anatomy study in each block. This concern should be considered by university in redesigning future curriculum to equip students with necessary knowledge of anatomy required by dentists in their future roles.
