Anion‐Templated Assembly of Half‐Sandwich Rhodium‐Based Multinuclear Metallamacrocycles

Abstract: A series of half-sandwich rhodium-based metallamacrocycles with tetra- and hexanuclearities have been synthesized. They are assembled by linking the deprotonated 2,4-diacetyl-5-hydroxy-5-methyl-3-(3-pyridinyl)cyclohexanone (HL) ligand in the presence of counteranions. When the counteranion was the tetrahedral BF(4)(-) ion, tetranuclear metallamacrocycle [(Cp*RhL)(4)][BF(4)](4) (1d) was formed. However, the larger OTf(-) , PF(6)(-) , and SbF(6) (-) counterions favored the formation of hexanuclear metallamacrocy… Show more

“…150 The size of the counteranion significantly affects the nuclearity of the final self-assembled macrocycles. While larger counteranions OTf − , PF 6 − and SbF 6 − favor the formation of hexanuclear metallamacrocycles, BF 4 − favors the formation of a tetranuclear metallamacrocycle.…”

“…These differences depend on several factors: the nature of the metal centers, the shape of the linker ligand, the donor types and so on. [30] In specific templated assemblies of metallamacrocycles, the coordination model of the metal is the main factor that determines the nuclearity and geometry of the macrocycle formed. Because of this, the amount of sodium acetate and the solvent used for crystallization was found to promote the formation of complex 5.…”
