Anisotropic Assembly of Nanocrystal/Molecular Hierarchical Superlattices Decoding from Tris‐Amide Triarylamines Supramolecular Networks

Abstract: Directed assembly of nanocrystals from conventional templates suffers from poor control over the periodicity of the nanocrystal assembly, which is largely due to the fact that the template exists prior to the assembly and is not generally adaptive. Herein, small organic molecules (tris-amide triarylamines, TATA) are demonstrated as conceptual templates from self-assembly through noncovalent interactions. The as-formed supramolecular structures with terminated alkyl chains, resembling the structure of as-synthe… Show more

“…Au nanoparticles coated with dodecanethiol). Our recent data demonstrate that these ordered alkyl chains on the supramolecular structures can interact with long carbon chains on the inorganic nanoparticles, which thereby direct the assembly of nanoparticles into 1D chain bundles [5] . Hence the chiral porphyrin supramolecular structures within the emulsion droplets can serve as chiral templates directing the assembly of nanoparticles into chiral superstructures.…”

“…This template assisted assembly largely relies on the molecular mutual recognition between nanoparticles and the templates, which therefore, requires surface functionalization of the nanoparticles to engage the complementarity between nanoparticles and the templates. Very recently, we have demonstrated that a series of small molecules, tris‐amide triarylamines (TATA) bearing the different lateral alkyl chains, are able to direct assembly of the nanoparticles terminated with alkyl chains through general hetero chain‐chain interactions [5] . This approach can be applicable to produce one‐dimensional (1D) nanoparticle assemblies from a wide range of nanoparticles without additional surface modification process.…”
