Annexin A1 expression is correlated with malignant potential of renal cell carcinoma

Abstract: Objectives To evaluate the expression of annexin A1 protein in patients with renal cell carcinoma. Methods Annexin A1 expression was examined in renal cell carcinoma specimens from 27 patients, and their disease‐free survival was analyzed using the log–rank test. Annexin A1 knockdown in the human renal cell carcinoma cell line Caki‐1 was carried out, and its proliferation, invasion, motility and adhesion were compared with those of control cells. Results In 13 out of 27 patients, annexin A1 was highly expresse… Show more

“…In breast cancer, ANXA1 overexpression is associated with resistance against 5-FU and trastuzumab treatments [38]. Additionally, ANXA1 expression was linked to reduced prognosis in gastric, bladder, breast, and renal cancers [14,[39][40][41].…”

“…The earliest discovered role of ANXA1 was its anti-inflammatory role to suppress neutrophils and modulated monocytes recruitment [9]. Dysregulation of ANXA1 expression has been reported to contribute to the pathophysiology of multiple processes, such as tumorigenesis and autoinflammatory diseases [10][11][12][13][14][15][16].…”

“…Model mice null for annexin A1 (Anxa1) show significantly suppressed tumor growth due to lack of angiogenesis, suggesting that Anxa1 is essential for tumor vascularization [10]. Anxa1 is reportedly present on the surface of tumor endothelial cells in several tumor types in mice and humans [11][12][13][14] and has been proposed to be a valid target for the tumor vasculature [15][16][17][18]. Previously, we discovered the carbohydrate mimetic peptide IFLLWQR (IF7) using peptide-displaying phage technology.…”

“…In subgroup II, the model predicting MRD reveals bre ‐ as1 (also known as babam2 ‐ as1 ) and anxa1 as risk factor and ddit4 l and wwc3 as protective factor. Dysregulations of anxa1 have been detected in multiple tumours 31,32 . Gene wwc3 has been linked to Hippo signalling cascade related to tumorigenesis 33,34 .…”
