Anthelmintic Activity of Methanolic Leaf Extract of Sophora Interrupta

Abstract: Crude methanolic extracts of leaves of Sophora interrupta (Fabaceae) were evaluated for in vitro anthelmintic activity on the Indian adult earthworms Pheritima posthuma. Albendazole was used as a standard drug to compare the test results. The results were interpreted as time taken for paralysis and death of the earth worms. The study concluded that the methanolic leaf extract of Sophora interrupta showed significant Anthelmintic activity in a dose dependent inhibition of spontaneous motility of earthworms.

“…The presence of saponins in the crude as saponins is known cause parallel irritation of mucus membrane which could lead to death of the parasite [13]. Phenols also the ability to form phenolic complexes capable of interfacing with energy generation in helminth parasite thereby by causing uncoupling oxidative phosphorylation that directly affects energy generation in the helminth parasite [14].…”

“…This is indeed obvious because the Table 5. subsequent bonding between C (14) and C (15) Table 5. Similarly consistent with this tabulated result is the bonding pattern on the other side of the double bond towards the COOH where C(8) δ C 128.85 and δ H 5.342 is bonded to methylenic C(7) δ C 34.06 and δ H 2.321, further bonding of C(7) to methylenic C(6) at δ C 29.65 and δ H 1.303 is followed by bonding to methylenic C(5),C(4), C(3), and C(2) as shown on Table 5.…”
