Anti-Atopic Dermatitis Effects of Abietic Acid Isolated from Rosin under Condition Optimized by Response Surface Methodology in DNCB-Spread BALB/c Mice

Abstract: Abietic acid (AA) is known to have beneficial effects on inflammation, photoaging, osteoporosis, cancer, and obesity; however, its efficacy on atopic dermatitis (AD) has not been reported. We investigated the anti-AD effects of AA, which was newly isolated from rosin, in an AD model. To achieve this, AA was isolated from rosin under conditions optimized by response surface methodology (RSM), and its effects on cell death, iNOS-induced COX-2 mediated pathway, inflammatory cytokine transcription, and the histopa… Show more

“…Western blot analyses to examine alterations in the protein expression were performed as described in previous studies [62,63]. For extracting the tissue homogenate, the Pro-prep Protein Extraction Solution (iNtRON Biotechnology Inc., Seongnam, Republic of Korea) was used under homogenization with a Polytron PT-MR 3100 D Homogenizer (Kinematica AG, Lusern, Switzerland).…”

“…It is well known for its anti-inflammatory [ 9 , 10 ], anti-cancer [ 11 , 12 ], and antioxidant properties [ 13 ]. Moreover, it was found to inhibit soybean 5-lipoxygenase [ 14 ] and cure acute lung injury [ 15 ] and atopic dermatitis [ 16 ]. Given the above abundant bioactivities, we aim to investigate whether AA has the potential for anti-hyperuricemia and compared the mechanism with SCE.…”
