Morinda is a largest genus of Rubiaceae family, and its 11 species are found in India.In India, plant species are known by several common names as great morinda, Indian mulberry, noni, beach mulberry and cheese fruit. Various Morinda products (capsules, tablets, skin products and fruit juices) are available in the market, used by people for treatment of several health complaints. A diversity of phytochemicals including iridoids, flavonoids, flavonoid glycosides, anthraquinones, coumarins, lignanas, noniosides, phenolics and triterpenoids have been reported from Morinda species. Morinda species are used in the treatment of inflammation, cancer, diabetes, psyquiatric disorders, and bacterial and viral infections. The noni fruit juice (Morinda citrifolia) and its products are used clinically in the treatment of cancer, hypertension and cervical spondylosis affecting patients. M. citrifolia fuit juice, with different doses, is used in the maintaining blood pressure and reducing of superoxides, HDL and LDL levels. Similarly, oligosaccharide capsules and tablets of root extract of M. officinalis are recommended as medicine for the treatment of kidney problems and sexual dysfunctions of patients. The toxicological studies revealed that higher doses of fruit juice (4,000 or 5,000 mg/kg) of M. citrifolia for 2 or more months cause toxic effects on liver and kidneys. M. officinalis root extracts (ethanolic and aqueous) are found fully safe during treatment of diseases. A large number of reviews are available on M. citrifolia but very few studies are conducted on other Indian Morinda species. This review reports the comprehensive knowledge on state-wise distribution, botany, ethnomedicinal uses, phytochemistry, pharmacological activities, clinical applications and toxicological evaluations of 11 species of Morinda found in India.

The aim of this article is to review Morinda citrifolia in the field of endodontics. Herbal medicaments have been used as remedies for various illnesses and diseases for centuries. Furthermore, it has been a topic of interest in dentistry for many years. Morinda citrifolia juice (MCJ), also commonly known as "Noni," a tropical fruit, has a wide range of uses in endodontics and in the eradication of endodontic pathogens without any potential side effects. A literature review is conducted using electronic databases, such as "PubMed," "Google Scholar," and "Scopus," using keywords "Herbal Medicine" and "M. citrifolia." Furthermore, an advanced or refined search was carried out using the keywords "Endodontics," "Root canal Therapy," "Irrigation," "Herbal Endodontics," and "Endodontic Disinfection." The MCJ can be used as an endodontic irrigant along with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) as an adjuvant to sodium hypochlorite and chlorhexidine (CHX) due to its better smear layer removal properties and antimicrobial activity. It also does not have any major side effects as compared with sodium hypochlorite and CHX. It also helps in caries prevention and control, which is the main crux for the requirement for endodontic treatment. Further studies on MCJ on the endodontic aspect of dentistry can alter the chemical aspect of endodontic therapy in the near future. The MCJ, due to its advantages compared with sodium hypochlorite and CHX, can be used in the field of endodontics.

This study highlights the characterization and biological activities (in vitro) of root extracts of Indigofera hirsuta (Ih-E) and Afrormosia laxiflora (Al-E). The results showed that total phenolic and flavonoid contents in dry Ih-E were 54.38 mg and 116.03 mg/gram, respectively, while in AlE were 170.46 mg and 80.23 mg/gram. Both extracts exhibited antioxidant activities since they decreased lipid peroxidation, but increased antioxidant activities and anti-inflammatory activities as shown from inhibition of RBC haemolysis and inhibition of albumin denaturation. Also, they have cytotoxic effect against normal BHK-21 and HepG2 where IC 50 for Ih-E were 309 µg/ml and 95µg/ml, respectively (selectivity index 1.58), while for AlE 57.50µg/ml and 144.50 µg/ml, respectively (selectivity index 0.40). Ih-E has antimicrobial activities towards Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Vibrio species and E-coli, while AlE showed no antimicrobial activities. Conclusion: Both extracts possessed antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities, thus, can be used as pharmacological tools.
