Anti‐Inflammatory Activity and Chemical Analysis of Different Fractions from Solidago chilensis Inflorescence

Abstract: Solidago chilensis Meyen (Compositae) is a species native to South America (Brazil) popularly known as arnica. In Brazilian popular medicine, inflorescences and rhizomes of this plant have been used since the end of the 19th century to replace the exogenous and hepatotoxic Arnica montana L. in the treatment of edema and inflammatory pathologies. Although the anti-inflammatory activity of S. chilensis is evidenced in the literature, there is a lack of studies with enriched fractions or compounds isolated from i… Show more

“…The extraction using ethanol:water (66° GL) is used to obtain tinctures according to the pharmacopeias (Brasil, ANVISA 2010;SHARAPIN, 2000;PEDRETTI, 1983) and each mL of those tinctures corresponds to 1 g of the dried drug. The ether:ethanol (1:1) mixture was chosen by our group considering the physical and chemical properties of the solidagenone, an important metabolite of SCM (Brito et al, 2021;Vasconcelos et al, 2021;a,b Valverde et al, 2009), the solvent on the solvent system, their interactions with the sample to get the best overall yield and, at least, the biological evaluation regarding the development of a new phytomedicine.…”
