Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity of Nigella sativa silver nanoparticles (NS AgNPs). Methods: Fourier transform infrared analysis was used to characterize the NS AgNPs and the extract. 2,2-diphenylpicrylhydrazyl assay was done to test the antioxidant potency of NS AgNP. Furthermore, in vitro anti-inflammatory activity of the extract and the NS AgNP was determined by red blood cell (RBC) membrane stabilization assay, protein inhibition assay, and interleukin-1 (IL-1) beta assay. Results: The NS AgNP exhibited dose-dependent antioxidant property. At the concentration 0.01 mg/ml 80% of radical was scavenged by NS AgNP. Inhibition of protein denaturation assay also suggests that NS AgNP shows the highest activity (70%) when compared with the standard drug aspirin (65%). RBC assay suggests that NS AgNP stabilizes the RBC membrane and prevents leaking. In the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay method the NS AgNP showed better IL-1 beta inhibition activity when compared to aqueous extract. Conclusion: From the study, it was inferred that NS AgNPs are more effective when compared to the extract. These results suggest that NS AgNP can be used to treat inflammatory disorders.

Bread is an affordable staple food available world wide. People demand for the high quality breads for consumption.Bread is considered to be a daily diet food for most of the people around the world. Foods with reduced glycemic index shows less risk of some chronic diseases like diabets and stroke. Senna auriculata a plant compound which is a potential inhibitor of diabetes. Low concentration possessed high radical scavenging activity, 90% of radicals were scavenged at lower concentrations. It further proved to have the anti-hemolytic effect. The extract inhibits the alpha amylase and alpha glycosidase activity. The bread contains large amount of digestible starch which leads to glycemic index. The foods with higher glycemic index leads to type 2 diabetes mellitus. Incorporation of Senna auriculata in bread is the effective method to produce low glycemic index foods. This study was aimed to evaluate digestability of starch and glycemic index in bread through the incorporating Senna auriculata as fortified bread sample. At 60 mins of dialysate, the concentration of resistant starch of bread sample with Senna Auriculata exhibited to be low when compared with the control. The Senna auriculata fortified bread sample is compared with the control which the regular bread based on their crust, colour, symmetry, texure, eating quality, and overall quality of the bread. Bread with 6% of extract was sensory evaluated. Bioactive components like phenolic, flavonoid found to be retained in fortified bread sample. Based on the biofunctional properties developed the evaluation is analysed at the retention time of the process. The sample has higher resistant starch and lower glycemic index. This overall invitro findings gives us a promising result that due to the lower glycemic effect the Senna auriculata fortified bread sample is situable and recommended for diabetes patients.

Background : The optimal concentration of essential oil of clove in absorption base ointment as anti-inflammatory has been studied. The developmentof formulations can be done by adding oleic acid and propylene glycol as enhancers. The purpose of this study was to determine the anti-inflammatoryactivity of the essential oil of clove in absorption base ointment formula by adding a mixture of oleic acid and propylene glycol as enhancers.Methods: In this study, the composition of oleic acid and propylene glycol was 100% oleic acid (FI), 50% oleic acid and propylene glycol (FII), and100% propylene glycol (FIII). The profile of the anti-inflammatory activity essential oil of clove was carried out using male of mice Balb/C strain whichwas induced inflammatory with croton oil on back of skin. After treatment, it was sacrificed and then was taken the back of skin to get histopathologicalpreparation. After that, the epidermal thickness, number of inflammatory cells, and cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 expression can be measured.Results : Based on the results of the test, it shows that FIII has the smallest of the amount of COX-2 expression, the number of inflammatory cells, andthe epidermal thickness so the addition of the composition enhancer provides good anti-inflammatory activity.Conclusion: The increasing concentration of propylene glycol caused the raising activity of essential oil of clove as anti-inflammatory.
