Anti-Osteoporotic Effects of Commiphora Myrrha and Its Poly-Saccharide via Osteoclastogenesis Inhibition

Abstract: In traditional oriental medicines, Commiphora myrrha and its resinous exudate (i.e., myrrh) are used as herbal remedies to treat various inflammatory and metabolic disorders. Until now, C. myrrha-derived herbal products are considered useful source for bioactive compounds to manage numerous human diseases. This study investigated the effects of water extract of C. myrrha resin (WCM) and its polysaccharide (WCM-PE) on modulatory effects of osteoclast differentiation and/or ovariectomized-induced bone loss. Oral… Show more

“…Studies have disclosed the modern pharmacology of myrrh. Water extracts and polysaccharides of C. myrrha are effective to treat the osteoporosis in postmenopausal women ( Hwang et al, 2021 ). A 10 min sitz-bath of myrrh extract greatly relieved the wound healing of the episiotomy in a clinical trial ( Faraji et al, 2021 ).…”

“…After adaptation for 1 week, animals were randomly divided into 5 groups ( n = 5/group) as naïve, sham, OVX, OVX supplemented 5 mg/kg, and OVX supplemented 10 mg/kg. Under anesthesia using isoflurane (Baxter, Deerfield, IL, USA), the mice were surgically ovariectomized via dorsolateral incisions, as previously described [ 46 ]. In addition, sham was generated by bilateral dorsal laparotomy.…”

“…8 Various traditional herbal medicines are recognized as safe and cost-effective treatments for musculoskeletal disorders, such as Rhizoma Drynariae, Fructus Psoraleae, Salvia miltiorrhiza, Herba Epimedii, Commiphora myrrha, and Radix Dipsaci. [9][10][11][12][13][14] Taiwanofungus camphoratus, or Antrodia cinnamomea, is a native medicinal mushroom distinguished by its orange-red fruit bodies. This particular fungus only grows inside the native Cinnamomum kanehirae Hayata tree, which belongs to the Lauraceae family.…”
