“…for the GPA patient group, out of a total number of 13 IgG subclass positivities, 5 were IgG2, 5 were IgG3 and 3 were IgG4). in some Crohn's patients (Farrace et al, 2001;Ribeiro-Cabral et al, 2011).…”

“…Anti-gliadin antibodies were rarely found in this sub-group of individuals, which strikingly, represented a third (97/287) of the T1DM study population. In Crohn's disease, there are multiple reports of patients positive for IgA anti-tTG, but negative for IgA EMA (Farrace et al, 2001;Ribeiro-Cabral et al, 2011) and conflicting reports of the presence of IgG anti-tTG (Sjoberg et al, 2002;Bizzaro et al, 2003). Serum IgA anti-tTG positivity, which is subsequently EMA negative, has also been described in individuals with rheumatoid arthritis (Picarelli et al, 2003), as well as prevalent IgG anti-tTG antibodies (Roth et al, 2006).…”

“…We postulate that in the presence of mucosal T cell activation ( Campbell et al, 2003 , Veitch et al, 2001 ) and epithelial leakiness the cells of the lamina propria can generate autoantibodies, and that this autoreactivity exacerbates mucosal pathology. Autoantibody generation has been reported in Crohn's disease ( Ribeiro-Cabral et al, 2011 ) and in olmesartan-induced enteropathy ( Esteve et al, 2016 ) where it was reversible. Exposure to gluten and gliadin peptides is thought to be essential for development of the autoantibodies which characterize coeliac disease ( Sollid and Jabri, 2013 ), but in Zambia the staple diet is maize, and children being treated for SAM have a therapeutic feed which includes no gluten ( Ashworth et al, 2003 ).…”

“…On the other hand, the positivity is reported higher in IBD patients [29–31]. According to the recent studies, using a human recombinant tTG, the prevalence of tTG in Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis is 0–27.2 % [29, 30] and 1–12 % [29, 31], respectively. In this study, the prevalence of tTG was 19.4 and 9.1 % in Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, respectively.…”
