Antibacterial and Regenerated Characteristics of Ag-zeolite for Removing Bioaerosols in Indoor Environment

Abstract: The antibacterial reaction rate k t (CFU/g-hr) and total antibacterial capacity q T (CFU/g) were calculated to evaluate the performance of antibacterial Ag-zeolite (AgZ) with a series of experiments. The continuous antibacterial reactions at 10 and 80 hr were respectively repeated nine times to evaluate the AgZ antibacterial ability. An antibacterial system was conducted in a fixed bed reactor packed with AgZ to reduce bacterium and fungus counts in the indoor environment. The AgZ used in this study was prepar… Show more

“…S BET decreased by up to 44% after the introduction of Ag into the zeolite framework. The decrease in the specific surface area of AgZ composites with the higher loading of Ag was attributed to the blockage of the zeolite pores and channels due to the deposition of Ag particles [59], with few significant changes to the zeolite channel structures. There is also a strong possibility that the abundance of surface Ag on the AgZ materials could impede the entry of N 2 gas into the interior surface of the zeolites.…”

“…Other air cleaning technologies may also potentially emit ROS, including those using ceramics and transition metal oxides to adsorb and/or remove formaldehyde at room temperature [20,21] and those aimed at microbial inactivation at high temperatures [22][23][24]. The later involves combination with ceramic and zeolite substrates [25,26].…”
