“…Antibiofilm action of AgNPs of 8.3 nm in diameter stabilized by hydrolyzed casein peptides on Gram-negative bacteria (E. coli, P. aeruginosa and Serratia proteamaculans) was investigated by Radzig et al [86]. A strong inhibition of biofilms formation was observed.…”

“…Porins are involved in the transport of Ag-ions and E. coli bacteria expressing mutated porin proteins are less susceptible to silver ions action [87]. Radzig et al [86] confirmed that E. coli mutant strains deficient in OmpF or OmpC porins were 4-8 times more resistant to AgNP when compared to the wild type strain, suggesting that porins have a key role in allowing AgNPs to exert their antibacterial effect. The anti-biofilm activity of silver nanoparticles was also demonstrated in other studies mainly focused on bacteria showing resistance to conventional antibiotics [88,89].…”

“…The samples were analyzed on a flow cytometer (BD FACS Verse™ BD Biosciences, San Jose, CA, USA) to discriminate between live and dead cells. 29,30 The above stained samples were also visualized using fluorescent microscopy at 1,000× magnification.…”

“…The disrupted cellular membranes could facilitate the entry of nanoparticles into the host cell and several reports have demonstrated that Gram-negative bacteria show an increased susceptibility to AgNPs (Sondi & Salopek-Sondi, 2004;Radzig et al, 2013), which makes these vehicles suitable candidates as an antimicrobial agent against NHP-B. The application of nanoparticles to prevent bacterial colonization in human cells has been explored, but no progress has been reported against NHP-B in aquaculture species.…”
