Antibody–Biopolymer Conjugates in Oncology: A Review

Abstract: Cancer is one of the most prevalent diseases and affects a large proportion of the population worldwide. Conventional treatments in the management include chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery. Although being well-accepted, they have many lacunas in the form of severe side effect resulting from lack of targeted delivery. Antibody biopolymer conjugates are a novel method which is an add-on to older methods of immunization. It is used in various diseases and disorders. It ensures the targeted delivery of molec… Show more

“…391 Natural polymers such as chitosan have been widely exploited to prepare antibody-biopolymer conjugates in oncology due to their outstanding biocompatible and biodegradable characteristics. 392 Meanwhile, polymers can also be covalently or noncovalently attached with antibodies to facilitate intracellular or targeted delivery. More information can be found in section 4.3.3, and is thus not specified herein.…”

“…AI helps create newer proteins, peptides, nucleic acid biologics and immunotherapeutics [ 144 , 145 , 146 , 147 , 148 , 149 , 150 , 151 , 152 ]. AI algorithms could help to build proteins and peptides with desired features [ 153 , 154 , 155 , 156 , 157 ]. AI models may produce therapeutic sequences with better stability, binding affinity, or immunogenicity by analyzing massive volumes of protein structure and function data.…”

“…They consist of a basic structure composed of four polypeptide chains: two identical heavy chains and two identical light chains with their typical "Y" shape [100,101]. Antibodies are biological molecules, derived from animals, that have gained importance in pathogen-biomarker detection methods, due to their high specificity and in vivo uniqueness [102], designing monoclonal antibodies to precisely target antigens or receptors [103]. An antibody-based biosensor was presented by Majid et al ( 2019) [104].…”
