Anticancer Effects of Sinocrassulosides VI/VII from Silene viscidula on HeLa Cells

Abstract: Natural products are becoming increasingly important in chemoprevention and for cancer therapy. Silene viscidula (S. viscidula), a traditional Chinese herb, has long been used as an anti-inflammatory and neuroleptic agent. However, the anticancer activity of S. viscidula has remained unclear. In this study, 16 compounds were extracted from S. viscidula. Among those compounds, sinocrassulosides VI/VII, an inseparable isomer mixture, possess the strongest inhibitory activity on HeLa cells with the IC 50 value of… Show more

“…Several phyto-chemical studies have been carried out on Silene species [14,[16][17], highlighting the occurrence of ecdysteroids [18][19], triterpene saponins [20][21], terpenoids [22]. Furthermore, Silene species exhibit a broad range of pharmacological activities, such as antimicrobial [23], anti-inflammatory [24], antioxidant [25], antitumor [26], antiviral [27], hepatoprotection [28], immunomodulatory [29], and phagocytic activities [30].…”
