“…T. stans growing in Egypt has two alkaloids called tecomine-1 and tecostanine-2 as the main active compounds in T. stans (Hammouda et al, 1964;Hammouda and Amer, 1996). Recently, Alonso-Castro et al (2010) reported that T. stans extracts contained more phenolics, flavonoids and alkaloids than other studied species and the chemical characterization of T. stans extra resulted in 12±2.1 GAEg/kg of phenolic compounds, 1.2±0.1 quercetin g/kg of flavonoids and 20.5±3.4 atropine g/kg of alkaloids.…”

“…In fact, Tecomine 1 and Tecostanine 2, isolated from Tecoma stans growing in Egypt, were shown to produce a marked reductions in the blood sugar of fasting rabbits (normal or alloxantreated animals) both orally or i.v. ; the mechanism of action of these substances was not elucidated, but they showed to be inactive in the absence of pancreas [3,4]. Recently, Tecostanine 2 was shown to be inactive as hypoglycemic agent in normoglycemic and hyperglycemic rats [5].…”

“…The plant leaf extract reduces blood sugar of fasting rabbits (Hammouda, Rashid & Amer 1964). The plant contains monoterpene alkaloids and two of them (tecomine and tecostanine) are responsible for the hypoglycaemic activity of the plant (Hammouda & Amer 1966). No information in the literature was found on the antifungal activity of the plant, therefore leaving scope for this study to provide information regarding possible antifungal uses.…”
