Antiinflammatory and Antinociceptive Activities of Zingiber zerumbet Methanol Extract in Experimental Model Systems

Abstract: Objective: The present study was carried out to determine the antiinflammatory and antinociceptive activities of a methanol extract of Zingiber zerumbet rhizomes (MEZZ) using various experimental model systems. Materials and Methods: The MEZZ was prepared by macerating oven-dried (50°C) powdered rhizomes (1.2 kg) of Z. zerumbet in 80% methanol in a ratio of 1:20 (w/v) for 48 h. The supernatant was collected, filtered and evaporated to dryness under reduced pressure (50°C) yielding approximately 21.0 g of the c… Show more

“…More than 250 plants are being used for the treatment of various diseases. However, few of these plants have undergone chemical, pharmacological and toxicological studies [1][2][3][4] . In order to get anticancer agents from natural sources, we have primarily selected four plants [namely Feronia limonia (F. limonia), Azadirachta indica (A. indica), Costus curvibracteatus (C. curvibracteatus) and Eucalyptus camaldulensis (E. camaldulensis )] which are well known to possess therapeutic values in the Ayurvedic and Unani pharmacopoeia.…”
