“…The green fruit contains solasodine, a steroid precursor (Motidome, Leeking, & Gotlieb, 1970;Motta, Peters, Reis, & Guerra, 2002). • Lychee is known to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities (Besra, Sharma, & Gomes, 1996;Jiang, Duan, Su, Zhang, & Shi, 2007). • Marolo pulp contains nine carotenoids: α-carotene, β-carotene, τ-carotene, β-zeacarotene, ε-carotene, β-cryptoxanthin, violaxanthin, lutein and routatoxanthin.…”

“…The rich flora of the Cerrado biome in Brazil has been poorly studied to evaluate the efficacy and therapeutic effects of crude extracts or isolated compounds obtained from a wide range of plant families. Crude extracts, as well as isolated flavonoids from plants belonging to the Sapindaceae family, have been investigated for their anti-inflammatory and anti-viral activity (Besra et al, 1996;Getie et al, 2002). The crude extract and pure substances from Casearia sylvestris (Flacourtiaceae) are able to inhibit phospholipase A2 (PLA2) activity of snake venoms and some purified toxins (Raslan et al, 2002) and display anti-ulcer activity (Basile et al, 1990).…”

“…Thermic painful stimuli are known to be selective to centrally but not peripherally acting analgesic drugs (Chau, 1989). Thermal induced nociception indicates narcotic involvement (Besra et al, 1996) and are more sensitive to opioid μ receptors and non-thermal tests are to opioid κ receptors. (Abbott and Young, 1988) The centrally acting analgesics generally elevate the pain threshold of mice towards heat.…”
