Antimicrobial Effects of Ethanol, Methanol and Ethyl Acetate Teucrium polium and Citrullus colocynthis extract on Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Abstract: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a common pathogen in a wide range of infections, from urinary tract infections to bacteremia. Intrinsic resistance to antimicrobial agents in this bacterium worsens the condition of the treatment of infections caused by it. The aim of this study was to investigate the antimicrobial effects of ethanol, methanol, and ethyl acetate Teucrium polium Extract and Citrullus colocynthis on a p. aeruginosa isolated from Zabol hospital. P. aeruginosa specimens were collected from Zabol city. Pla… Show more

“…The methanol extracts of the plant showed strong antibacterial activity against Bacillus subtillis , Streptococcus pyogenes , and Salmonella typhi [ 29 ]. Besides, the aqueous and acetone extracts of C. colocynthis Schrad (roots, stems, leaves, and three stages of its fruit and seeds) showed antibacterial activities against all tested bacteria [ 30 , 31 ]. The high quantities of phenolic compounds were reported in the aqueous and ethanolic extracts of the plant C. colocynthis .…”

“…Many plant essential oils have been reported to have significant inhibitory effects on pathogenic microorganisms, and it has been shown that most herb essential oils obtained from medicinal herbs have antifungal, antiparasitic, antibacterial, and antimicrobial properties; therefore, plant essential oils have been greatly utilized in some fields such as pharmacology, herbal pharmacology, pharmaceutical/clinical microbiology, and phytopathology, as well as maintenance of food, fruits, and vegetables (3,4). These herbal medicines are popular among people (5).…”
