“…Our A. urogenitalis strains were widely susceptible to several classes of antibiotics, as previously reported (15). Actinomyces urogenitalis exhibited low minimal inhibitory concentrations (MIC) to b-lactams, erythromycin, daptomycin, rifampicin, tigecycline, and linezolid ( Table 1).…”

“…Actinomyces urogenitalis exhibited low minimal inhibitory concentrations (MIC) to b-lactams, erythromycin, daptomycin, rifampicin, tigecycline, and linezolid ( Table 1). The strain exhibited high MICs to fluoroquinolones, that is, moxifloxacin and ciprofloxacin, as previously reported (3,6,15). In the study by Barberis et al (15), 11 of 11 strains of A. urogenitalis were highly resistant to ciprofloxacin and levofloxacin and 8 of 11 strains resistant to clindamycin, though without the definite resistance mechanism being outlined.…”

“…This rare infection was cured with prolonged amoxicillin therapy. Penicillin derivatives are the best treatment for Actinomyces infections (Russo, 2010;Barberis et al, 2017), but the effectiveness of β-lactam therapy in prostatic infections is disputable.…”

“…The first report of this organism causing clinical infection was in a case of a large subcutaneous abscess 12. Barberis et al analysed the antimicrobial susceptibility of 113 clinical isolates of actinomyces including eight isolates of A. odontolyticus , finding that all of the isolates were susceptible to penicillin, ceftriaxone, vancomycin and linezolid 13. Once recognised, treatment of these infections requires long courses of parenteral and oral therapy.…”
