Antiosteoporotic and antioxidant activities of diterpenoids from the Vietnamese soft corals Sinularia maxima and Lobophytum crassum

Abstract: Marine organisms possess bioactive potential with tremendous pharmaceutical promise. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the antioxidant (peroxyl radical-scavenging and reducing capacities) and antiosteoporotic activities of isolated constituents (1-26) from the soft corals Sinularia maxima and Lobophytum crassum on pre-osteoblastic MC3T3-E1 cells and pre-osteoclastic RAW 264.7 cells. Among the isolated compounds, 7, 9, 17, 18, and 20 (10.0 lM) exhibited significant peroxyl radical-scavenging c… Show more

“…collected from Pongok Island, Bangka Belitung, Indonesia were detected flavonoid derivative components that can act as antioxidants (Apri, Zamani, & Effendi, 2013). Twenty-four diterpenoid derivatives extracted from Sinularia maxima and Lobophytum crissum showed peroxyl radical capacityscavenging capacity from moderate to strong (Thao et al, 2015). Ethanolic extract from Sarcophyton flexuosum Tixier-Durivault collected from Kavarathi Island, Lakshadweep Islands showed increased of free radical scavenging when the extract concentration increased gradually (Byju et al, 2015).…”

“…However, the research for collagen on corals, especially for soft corals, has remarkably improved. Over the last several years [2,3,44,54], very interesting findings on collagen molecules have been demonstrated from soft corals. Also, a number of collagen-associated glycoproteins have been detected in soft corals [14,24,25,55,56].…”

“…Ekstrak etanolik Heteroxenia fuscescens menunjukkan aktivitas antioksidan ringan (Mohammed et al, 2011). Senyawa turunan diterpenoid dari Sinularia maxima dan Lobophytum crissum menunjukkan kapasitas penangkapan radikal peroksil dari sedang hingga kuat (Thao et al, 2015). Ekstrak etanolik dari Sarcophyton flexuosum Tixier-Durivault dari Pulau Kavarathi, Lakshadweep m enunj ukkan peningkatan penangkapan radikal bebas saat konsentrasi ekstrak meningkat secara bertahap (Byju et al, 2015).…”
