Antioxidant Activity of a New Xanthone Derivative from Aspidistra Letreae: In Vitro and In Silico Studies

Abstract: A new xanthone derivative, aspidxanthone A (1), and three known compounds ((2S)‐1‐(β‐D‐galactopyranosyloxy)‐3‐(hexadecanoyloxy)propan‐2‐yl (9Z,12Z)‐octadeca‐9,12‐dienoate (2), (25S)‐spirostane‐1β,3α,5β‐triol (3), and asparenyldiol (4)) were isolated from the whole of the endemic species Aspidistra letreae in Vietnam. Their structures were elucidated by means of extensive spectroscopic analyses and comparison with published data. In this study, we report the isolation and structure elucidation of a new compound… Show more

“…L-ascorbic acid was chosen as a positive control. L-ascorbic acid is one of the synthesis antioxidants and has been widely used by researchers to study the antioxidant activity in plant extracts ( Manssouri et al, 2020 ; Ho et al, 2021 ). A low IC 50 value indicates the better antioxidant activity of the extracts as a potential antioxidant agent.…”

“…Antioxidant activity was assessed using the standard DPPH * assay, according to the method described by Masuda et al with slight modifications. [42,43] 1.0 mg of the extracts and isolated compounds were completely dissolved into 100 μL of MeOH. This solution was added into 0.1 mM DPPH * solution to make different concentrations from 6.25 μg mL À 1 to 100 μg mL À 1 for the extracts and 3.125 μM to 50 μM for compounds.…”

“…Several studies have indicated that the antioxidant capacity was affected by the number of hydroxyl groups. 47 In this study, the structure of curcumin contained two groups of o -methoxyphenols and an enol form of β-diketone. This structure allows the ability to thoroughly trap free radicals in a chain-breaking antioxidant mechanism.…”
