“…In spite of ancient age, it is included amongst the Neglected and Under-utilized food resources (IPGRI, 2002), because it has not received much attention from the researchers for various aspects of its agriculture or botany. In terms of economic importance, pomegranates are well known for their medicinal uses such as for lowering of blood pressure (Aviram and Dornfeld 2001); as antiviral agents (Jassim & Naji, 2003); as anti-oxidant and anti-ulcer treatments (Ajaikumar et al, 2005;Ricci et al, 2006) and as a potential treatment of inflammation and cancer (Lansky & Newman, 2007); as a source of vegetable dyes besides their importance as an edible fruit. In the recent years there has been a considerably renewed interest in this ancient fruit, especially from a medicinal perspective and there is an impressive listing of potential disease targets such as coronary heart diseases, cancers (skin, breast, prostate and colon), inflammation, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, cardiac disorders, hypoxia, ischaemia, aging, brain disorders and AIDS, where therapeutic effects of pomegranate compounds and extracts have been shown (Seeram et al, 2006).…”

“…From the resultant it could be notice that the pomegranate fruits peel powder had higher amounted from total phenolic acid and flavonoids compounds were 58.63 mg/g GAE and 47.32 mg/g Q E, respectively. Pomegranate is rich in antioxidant of polyphenolic class which includes tannins and anthocynins and flavonoids (Ricci et al, 2006 andDe Nigris et al, 2007). Pomegranate is useful for cases of high fever, chronic diarrhea and expelling intestinal worms especially tapeworms and treatment of hemorrhoids, as it is beneficial to cold and treatment of skin disease, scabies and a mix powder peel with honey and used daily in the form of paint.…”

“…The antioxidant powers of PJ are related to their high polyphenolic contents and their variation [58]. The antioxidant effects of phenolic compounds of PJ are more potent than many other antioxidant compounds [58] (such as vitamins), and are able to scavenge ROS and reactive nitrogen species which resulted from DEN and PB metabolism [33,59].…”

“…The antioxidant effects of phenolic compounds of PJ are more potent than many other antioxidant compounds [58] (such as vitamins), and are able to scavenge ROS and reactive nitrogen species which resulted from DEN and PB metabolism [33,59]. Punicalagin, one of the ellagitannins, is responsible for more than 50% of the antioxidant activity of the PJ [41].…”
