“…DPPH radical is widely used for assessing the various antioxidants’ scavenging effects, which is a stable free radical molecule. With DPPH radical decreasing, the color of DPPH reaction solution varies from red to yellow even colorless (Zhang et al, ). In this research, the scavenging effects of DIP‐1 and Vc against DPPH radical were presented in Figure b.…”

“…According to previous reports, the reducing power, prevention of the chain initiation reaction and radical scavenging activity indicate positive antioxidant effects via the interruption of the free radical chain and the simultaneous contribution of a hydrogen atom to Fe 3+ , generating Fe 2+   2729 . The scavenging activity towards the DPPH radical, a jarless free radical, is a quick and effective indicator that reflects antioxidant activity when DPPH interacts with electron/hydrogen radicals to form non-radical form (DPPH-H) 30 . As a major type of ROS, the hydroxyl radical damages biomolecules and induces lipid peroxidation, which is not completely eliminated by the human defence system alone 24, 31 .…”

“…In general, the detected antioxidant activity represents an important added-value, despite the weaker performance of the mycelium and culture medium extracts when compared with the DPPH scavenging activity (EC 50 values ranging from 0.8 to 3 mg/ mL) and reducing power (EC 50 = 0.5 mg/mL) obtained in polysaccharide fractions of P. eryngii (Li & Shah, 2014;Ma et al, 2016;Zhang et al, 2016). However, it should be reminded that the results presented herein were obtained with raw extracts, not with purified fractions.…”

“…The cultured mycelia are becoming a promising alternative as a source of fungal bioactive compounds, mostly due to the shorter incubation time and easier culture conditions (less required space, low probability of contamination and higher production of biomass, when compared to the fruiting bodies) (Gan et al, 2012;Zhang et al, 2016).…”
