Antioxidants from Plant Sources and Free Radicals

Abstract: Today, many factors such as advancing technology, environmental pollution, radiation, contaminated water, pesticides, heavy metals, stress and oxygen metabolism in living cells inevitably cause the formation of free radicals in the human body. Free radicals are very reactive forms of oxygen that destroy the cells of the organism. This calls for cardiovascular disease, cancer, cataracts, diabetes and many more diseases. To provide solutions to these diseases, firstly, we can eliminate the negative effects of fr… Show more

“…Oxidative stress plays a significant role in the development of chronic and degenerative diseases, such as cancer (Gašparović 2020), cardiovascular disease (Dubois-deruy et al 2020), Alzheimer (Bhatt et al 2020), aging (Russo et al 2018), atherosclerosis (Batty et al 2022, autoimmune disorders, and arthritis (Flieger et al 2021). The protection against free radicals can be enhanced by the activity of antioxidants (Atasoy and Yücel 2021). The use of natural antioxidants derived from plants has received much attention recently because plants are one of the best sources of natural antioxidants such as flavonoids, phenolic, and alkaloid (Tungmunnithum et al 2018;Macáková et al 2019).…”

“…Free radicals are highly reactive forms of oxygen that destroy the cells of organisms. This can lead to cardiovascular disease, cancer, cataracts, diabetes, and many other diseases (Atasoy and Yücel 2021). In this case, antioxidants from dietary sources are needed to prevent excessive free radical damage (Li et al 2014).…”

“…Free radicals can cause various diseases such as cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and other generative diseases ( 2013), (Akar Z, Küçük M, 2017). One mechanism that can counteract or reduce free radicals is antioxidants (Atasoy, N., & Yücel, 2021). Antioxidants are substances that can prevent or slow damage to living cells caused by free radicals, which are unstable molecules the body produces as a reaction to environmental and other pressures (Shalaby, 2019).…”
