Antiproliferative activity and caspase enhancement properties of Annona muricata leaves extract against colorectal cancer cells

Abstract: ABSTRAK ABSTRACTBackground: The prevalence of colorectal cancer is rising in Asia including Indonesia. Annona muricata tea leaves, that is traditionally used for maintaining health, and lately being used by cancer patients. The objectives of this study is to investigate its effects in human colorectal cancer cell in vitro and ex vivo.

“…Meanwhile, caspase-8 activity in CRC cells after treatment with serum from patients receiving placebo group showed no changes pre and post treatment (0.19, 95% CI 0.16-0.23 VS 0.19, 95% CI 0.16-0.23, p = 0.433). In summary, this study exhibited that ESFAM induced cytotoxic activities in CRC cells through significant elevation of caspase-9 activity (Indrawati et al, 2016).…”

“…The inhibitory activity of the ligands reticuline and coclaurine with these anti-cancer receptors are thought to be potential therapeutic targets was investigated before using multi-receptor docking and for In-silico studies [65]. The optimum docked pose of structure was chosen based on the lowest binding energy interacting residues, and hydrogen bond number [66]. Among the alkaloids, reticuline had the best docked postures and the highest interactive energy [67].…”

“…In vitro studies and cytotoxicity test in animal, also clinical trial have been conducted using the extract of these leaves. [9][10] This study aims to analyse the potential of Annona muricata leaves extract to be an anti-colon cancer by investigating the extract capability in reducing serum level of ICAM-1 and VCAM-1.…”
