“…5,36 Only a few case reports describe ASS complicating the course of RA. [5][6][7][8][9][10][11] In general, there is little justification for requesting tests for anti-ENA autoantibodies unless the ANA test is positive. Previously was recommended to perform an initial ANA screening test followed by confirmatory anti-ENA and anti-dsDNA antibody, if needed.…”

“…Although RA and ASS are distinct clinical syndromes, their co-occurrence may be rarely encountered and by early diagnosis serious or even fatal ILD can be prevented by early and appropriate treatment. [5][6][7][8][9][10] A limitation of our study is that many studies were done regarding ENA autoantibodies including ANA, anti-Ro and anti-La in relation to secondary Sjogren's syndrome. The strength of our study is that only few studies have systematically investigated the different types of autoantibodies against ENA in a large series of RA patients correlating the findings with clinical manifestations.…”

“…Among the extra-muscular manifestations of ASyS, less attention has been drawn to the joint involvement, even though approximately 70% of patients develop arthralgia or arthritis during the course of their disease [2][3][4]. Polyarthritis may be the initial manifestation often leading to an initial diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis [5,6]. In fact, 445 of 636 (64%) ASyS had polyarticular, symmetrical arthritis from disease onset in the American and European Network of Antisynthetase Syndrome (AENEAS network) [2].…”

“…RA can precede myositis, or it can develop after the diagnosis of PM/DM 3 . We previously reported 2 patients with RA who were not receiving anti-TNF therapy, but developed anti-Jo-1 antibody-positive PM and DM 4,5 . In these 2 patients, onset of RA preceded that of DM or PM by 1 and 19 years, respectively, which suggests that PM/DM can develop at any time during the course of RA.…”
