ANXA1 (Annexin A1) regulated by MYC (MYC proto-oncogene) promotes the growth of papillary thyroid carcinoma

Abstract: Thyroid carcinoma is one of the most common endocrine malignancies, in which papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is the main pathotype. ANXA1 plays a significant role in many cancer types, but how it works in PTC has not been identified. MYC is a common transcript factor involved in tumorigenesis, development, invasion, and metastasis. The relation between ANXA1 and MYC has not been proved in PTC. In this study, firstly, we analyzed the expression and prognostic value of ANXA1 in pan-cancer using the data from t… Show more

“…The target genes for MYC approached 4000 in human, that are involved in various cellular processes, including cell cycle, survival, protein synthesis, cell adhesion, cytoskeleton, and metabolism 133 , 134 . It is worth mentioning that HSP90 135 , OSTF1 136 , VDAC2 137 , RPs 138 , 139 , mitochondrial genes 140 , Col2A1 141 , and cytoskeleton-associated proteins 142 144 , are all targets for MYC. Of particular interest, MYC was found to be expressed in bone and required for osteoclast differentiation 145 .…”

“…Numerous studies have reported that ANXA1 expression is dysregulated in various common malignant tumors, including nonmetastatic gliomas (14-17) and metastatic tumors. Among the metastatic tumors, ANXA1 is mainly upregulated in pancreatic cancer (PC) (18)(19)(20)(21), multiple myeloma (MM) (22), nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) (11,12), oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) (23), papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) (24)(25)(26), lung cancer (27)(28)(29)(30), and colorectal cancer (31) and downregulated in melanoma (32,33) and esophageal and bile duct cancers (34); moreover, its expression in gastric cancer (GC) (34,35) and breast cancer (BC) (36)(37)(38)(39) remains controversial among researchers (Table 2). Tumor development and metastasis are closely associated with the differential expression of ANXA1 in normal and tumor tissue samples (8).…”

“…ANXA1 may contribute to the growth of some cancers (24,28,41). One recent report indicates that ANXA1 may be regulated by MYC to promote PTC proliferation (26).…”

“…MYC is a human proto-oncogene, including C-MYC, N-MYC and L-MYC, involved in the occurrence, development, invasion and metastasis of tumors. Abnormal expression of MYC in PTC has been reported in a slew of literatures ( 19 ). The NDRG family is a downstream regulator of MYC.…”
