Anything Rare is Possible: Letrozole Induced Eczematous Skin Eruption

Abstract: We report a rare case with eczematous moderate severe drug eruption associated with the use of letrozole for breast cancer.A 61-year-old female came to the hospital, Manipal, India with complaint of lump in the left breast in December 2012. The lump measured 4cm x 3cm, borders were well-defined, margins negative and two left pectoral and one left subclavicular, 3/16 (18%) lymph nodes were involved. Right breast was completely normal. Following ultrasonography and Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) the lump… Show more

“…To uncover similar clinical presentations, a comprehensive literature review was performed. The study conducted by Tripathy et al shed light on a singular case that exhibited a striking resemblance to the current case under examination [10]. However, in the former case, a comprehensive biopsy was not conducted, thereby introducing an element of conjecture regarding the precise pathological character of the drug-induced eruption.…”

“…However, in the former case, a comprehensive biopsy was not conducted, thereby introducing an element of conjecture regarding the precise pathological character of the drug-induced eruption. Tripathy et al asserted their pioneering contribution in delineating a drug eruption provoked by letrozole, thereby highlighting the infrequency of such clinical manifestations within the medical domain [10]. Cases of this…”

“…10 Recently reported eczematous skin eruption due to letrozole is one of the side effects that known to be developed by this drug. 11 Cutaneous side-effects secondary to use of aromatase inhibitors, including letrozole, in breast cancer patients may cause potentially pitfalls in the management of patients. Awareness of letrozole induced cutaneous adverse reactions may lead to prevent patient inadherence and treatment interruption.…”
