Aortic aneurysm

Abstract: DEFINITIONAortic aneurysm refers to pathologic dilatation of aortic segment that has the tendency to expand and rupture. The extent of dilatation is debatable but one criterion is an increase in the diameter of at least 50% greater than that expected for the same aortic segment in unaffected individuals of same age and sex. Aortic aneurysms are described in terms of their size, location, morphology, and cause.

“…Aortic aneurysm (AA) represents an important cause of death. AA is clinically characterized by an enlargement of at least 50% of an aortic segment compared with the same segment in healthy individuals and can be subdivided in thoracic aortic aneurysm (TAA) or abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), the latter being the most frequent [42]. AA is accompanied by progressive degeneration of the aortic wall [42].…”

AA is accompanied by progressive degeneration of the aortic wall [42]. Initially, a bulge-like dilation of a segment of the aortic wall tends to expand and increase the risk of rupture [42].…”

“…Thoracic aortic aneurysms affect all three layers of the vessel and is applicable to any dilatation of over 1.5 times its normal size anywhere from the aortic root to the beginning of abdominal aorta (4,5). TAAs most commonly affect the aortic root and ascending aorta (60%) but can also affect other segments such as descending aorta (35%) and aortic arch (<10%) (6). Despite being similar pathologies and sharing some aetiologies, such as connective tissue degeneration and biomechanical changes, TAA distinguishes itself from the signature inflammatory changes in abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) with its heavier genetic involvements (5,7).…”

“…населення на рік і переважно (≈ 60 %) локалізується в корені аорти або висхідному відділі аорти. Аневризма кореня аорти часто спричинює аортальну недостатність, при збереженій морфологічній структурі стулок аортального клапана [1]. Клапанозберігаюча операція для пацієнтів з аневризмою кореня аорти була запропонована Тайроном Девідом в 1992 році, на противагу протезуванню кореня аорти штучним клапаном, і дала змогу зберегти пацієнтам нативний аортальний клапан.…”
