Apical extrusion of intracanal biofilm using ProTaper Gold, WaveOne Gold,Twisted File Adaptive, OneShape New Generation and K3XF

Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the bacterial extrusion during instrumentation with different nickel titanium (NiTi) engine-driven instruments. Methods: Ninety extracted single-canal human mandibular incisor teeth were inoculated with Enterococcus faecalis to obtain biofilm formation and were randomly divided to 6 groups (n=15). One group served as the control and was not instrumented; the other groups were prepared with ProTaper Gold (PTG; Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland), WaveOne Gold (WOG; Dentsply Maill… Show more

“…[ 5 6 ] The newer fifth generation of NiTi rotatry systems, including ProTaper Next ® (PTN Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland), BT Race ® (BTR FKG, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland), and WaveOne Gold ® (WOG Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland), has increased flexibility and improved resistance to cyclic fatigue. [ 7 8 9 ] PTN ® instruments manufactured from M-wire alloy have an innovative off-centered rectangular cross section that allows a snake-like continuous movement as they advance in the canal. [ 10 ] The WOG ® reciprocating file was developed as a single-file technique with post-manufacturing gold process in which the ground NiTi file is heat-treated and slowly cooled.…”

“…This came in agreement with Kumar et al whom found ProTaper Gold group to cause less post endodontic pain compared to other groups in their studies 12 . The less post endodontic pain associated with ProTaper Gold could be attributed to less debris extrusion due to the file flexibility and the noncutting tip design 13 . Both file systems used in this study were heat treated to produce a more flexible wire compared to the conventional super elastic NiTi systems.…”

“…Reciprocal motions were associated with less debris extrusion than continuous rotation, according to Üstün et al [28] and Arslan et al [29] , which could be explained by kinematics because reciprocating motion is a type of automatized balanced-force pressureless technique that is thought to have better control of apically extruded debris [30] . Furthermore, the properties of WOG minimise the bulk of the tip's centre and contribute to less debris extrusion [31] , whereas Bürklein et al [32] and Küçükyilmaz et al [33] discovered that rotary instrumentation caused less debris extrusion than reciprocal instrumentation. This difference could be due to the method of debris collection used, the type of tooth used, and/or the instrumentation used.…”
