“…Health Canada approval for clinical trial application for cervical injection of the mixture of the tracers for off-label use was obtained prior to initiation of the study. Despite there being no reports of toxicity of the utilization of ICG, 99mTc-SC, and blue dye in studies that utilized individual injection of all three tracers in patients with breast cancer or melanoma [20,21], patients were nonetheless informed of the possible theoretical risk of toxicity that could occur with injection of the mixture. Injection was performed following prepping of the patient under anesthesia and just prior to skin incision.…”

“…Scintigraphy with radiocolloids is extensively used in clinical practice because of the large availability of this radiotracer, commonly used to detect sentinel lymph node in breast cancer (11) and melanoma (12). It is employed in hepatosplenic disorders, due to its specific uptake in the reticulo-endothelial system by phagocytic Kuppfer's cells.…”

“…[12][13][14] Other clinical applications of ICG are in assessment of cardiovascular and liver functions. 15,16 ICG has also been investigated in patients with breast, gastric, and skin cancer undergoing sentinel lymph node mapping, [17][18][19][20][21][22][23] and evaluation of lymphedema. 24,25 Despite its proven efficacy in these applications, the utility of ICG for broader clinical usage has been limited due to its nonspecific binding to albumin and high-density lipoproteins in plasma.…”
