Application of decentralized control for remote power system stabilization by installing renewable energy power plant

Abstract: The generating power of wind turbines varies in proportion to the cube of wind speed, hence, they cannot supply constant power and this causes fluctuations in frequency and voltage. This article presents a methodology for controlling grid frequency, hydrogen volume, and terminal bus voltage. This system consists of diesel generators, wind turbines, and load. Aqua electrolyzer and fuel cells are introduced in order to control grid frequency, voltage, and hydrogen volume. By applying H ∞ control, frequency, volt… Show more

“…Due to the cost, transportation of fuels, and the emission of undesirable gases from diesel generator engines [1], renewable resources are the solution for supplying remote areas' demand. The disadvantages of the photovoltaic systems are their low conversion efficiency with high cost compared to wind power systems [2]. Wind power has many advantages, as it is clean, produces no air pollution, and is a renewable natural resource.…”

“…These renewable energy sources can be operated together or with the conventional power sources such as diesel or gas turbine generators and others. Nevertheless, the power generations from wind power and photovoltaic arrays are variable because solar and wind energy are intermittent in nature [6]. These cause power imbalance in generation and load [7], and results in severe power fluctuation in the microgrid [8,9].…”

“…In Ref. [14], EZ has been proposed to control the grid frequency and voltage for remote power system stabilization. Besides, the EZ has been applied to increase the load factor to the maximum level of 100% at high wind penetrations [15].…”
