Application of earned value based metrics on small-scale construction projects

Abstract: Abstract:The application of earned value based metrics in Serbia lags significantly behind other developed economies, regardless of the fact that is has proven to be a very useful and flexible tool for prediction of total cost and time of construction projects. This paper aims to contribute to the wider use of earned value management (EVM) as a practical metrics that can be used to track performance of small-scale construction projects. “…For this research study, I used semi-structured interviews with open-ended questions with thematic analysis for this research objective. Semi-structured interviews yielded data that could lead to a problem map (Avlijaš et al, 2015). Semi-structured interviews are a qualitative method of exploration that combines a pre-decided set of open-ended questions, which allows the interviewer to explore themes (Sharma & Sagar, 2018).…”

“…Traditional methods discuss only planned and an actual cost while Earned Value goes further and show the manager early warning for problems on the project before they become uncontrollable. Earned Value Management (EVM) is a set of guidelines that guide a company's management control system (Avlijas, et al, 2015). This study aims at reducing the gap between theory and practice and to contribute to the wider use of Earned Value Management (EVM) methodology in the construction industry in Zanzibar.…”

“…Based on the research by Avlijas, et.al [6], by using EVM methods, project performance can be monitored in terms of cost and the project duration against the initial plan. As mentioned earlier that monitoring & controlling project means suggest corrective action if the variance or the gap exist.…”
