Application of Infrared Digital Holography for Characterization of Inhomogeneities and Voluminous Defects of Single Crystals on the Example of ZnGeP2

Abstract: In this work, the method of IR digital holography intended for detection of volumetric defects in ZnGeP2 single crystals has been tested. The holographic method is verified by a comparison of the results obtained with the data obtained by other methods. The spatial resolution of the experimental setup is ~15–20 µm. The volumetric defects of the ZnGeP2 crystal structure (in samples with thickness up to 50 mm) such as growth striations, dislocation chain, and inclusions of the second phase (Zn3P2) shaped as need… Show more

“…For instance, IDH is employed to analyze the ZnGeP 2 single crystal, leading to the detection of defects ranging from 10 to 50 mm and the observation of accumulation. These findings pave the way for precise cutting of crystals into minimal nonlinear optical fragments . Additionally, digital holography is able to visualize the optical degradation process of crystals, enabling the estimation of temperature changes occurring during the formation of damaged channels .…”

“…Another noteworthy application involves monitoring human blood glucose and bacterial growth in real time by using holograms in the 860 nm range. Moreover, IDH is utilized for the detection of the drug cocaine and validates the feasibility of integrating a smartphone-based holographic sensor platform. Researchers have also explored the characterization of single-crystal inhomogeneities and numerous defects using a 1064 nm wave . The 1310 nm wavelength is employed for the quantitative phase graph of cloudy media cells …”
