Application of MPE Model to Iron Ore Sintering, Ironmaking and Steelmaking Processes

Abstract: A short review of the available models and databases in the Multi‐Phase Equilibrium (MPE) package developed by CSIRO are outlined in this paper. The capability of the MPE model covers the behavior of a large number of elements in high temperature processes such as iron ore sintering, iron and steelmaking, copper smelting and converting, nickel, lead, and zinc smelting as well as waste treatment etc. Some examples on the validation of the model and databases against published experimental data on slag liquidus,… Show more

“…[7][8][9][10][11][12] The Multi-Phase Equilibrium (MPE) is a thermodynamic package developed by CSIRO for simulating reactions between phases in multi-component and multiphase systems. [13][14][15] Through application of the thermodynamic model MPE, the viscosity and liquidus temperature of BF slags were calculated and compared with published experimental data. These comparisons showed the predicted values by the model were to be in good agreement and within experimental uncertainty.…”

“…The trend was supported by the experimental data. [21][22][23][24] The slag with high Al 2 O 3 will lead to less fluidity of the slag, hence affect the BF operation. As marked in Fig.…”
