Application of nanometer size of polypyrrole as a suitable adsorbent for removal of Cr(VI)

Abstract: The objective of this work was to investigate the sorption characteristics of polypyrrole (PPy) for the removal of Cr(VI) from aqueous solutions. The sorption process was carried out by a dynamic batch method in order to determine the optimum conditions. For a sorbent dose of 0.6 g in 100 mL of a Cr(VI) solution, at a contact time of 15 min and a pH of 3, a removal efficiency of 84.5% was achieved. The Morris–Weber and Lagergren equations, as well as a pseudo‐second‐order equation were examined to explore the … Show more

“…Polypyrrole (PPy) carries large amounts of positively charged nitrogen atoms in the polymer chains, which render it a good prospect in adsorption application. [17][18][19] Although GO/MnO 2 /PPy has high adsorption and reduction abilities for Cr(VI), the resulting mixture could not be easily collected from water aer treatment towards Cr(VI). 20 Herein, Fe 3 O 4 was incorporated with GO/ MnO 2 /PPy to obtain GO/MnO 2 /Fe 3 O 4 /PPy, which displayed a high removal ability on Cr(VI) through adsorption and reduction, and an excellent magnetic collectability from aqueous solution.…”

“…Fe 3 O 4 was modified with polymer nanocomposites such as polyaniline, polypyrrole, tetraethylenepentamine and mphenylenediamine [53][54][55][56][57][58][59]. As nanosized polypyrrole is considered as a good adsorbent [60] for remediation of Cr (VI), Fe 3 O 4 functionalised polypyrrole nanocomposite was prepared and subjected for adsorption of Cr (VI). The adsorbent exhibited 169.5 mg g -1 [61].…”

“…The pH of the aqueous medium is an important parameter that influence the adsorption process. It affects not only the surface charge of the adsorbent, but also the degree of speciation and ionization of the adsorbate during adsorption [30,31]. To investigate the effect of pH on the adsorption process, the pH solution was varied from 2.0 to 9.0 and the result was illustrated in Fig.…”
