Application of Nitrogen and Silicon Rates on Morphological and Chemical Lodging Related Characteristics in Rice (Oryza sativa L.) at North of Iran

Abstract:

Rice-based irrigated lowlands are the major cropping system in north of Iran. This experiment was carried out in split plot in basis of randomized complete block design with three replications at north of Iran in 2010. Main plot was nitrogen rates including (0, 50, 100 and 150 kg N ha-1) applied as urea and sub plot was silicon rates (0, 300 and 600 kg ha-1) applied as calcium silicate. Results showed that minimum of the plant height, flag leaf length, fourth inter-node bending moment … Show more

“…An increase of fertilizer levels significantly improves growth, grain and straw yields of rice. This result also confirms that fertilizer (N, P and K) is essential for increasing rice grain yields [7][8][9]. It promotes rapid growth and increases leaf size, spikelet number per panicle, percentage of filled spikelet in each panicle and grain protein content [10][11][12][13][14] also indicated that the grain yield of most rice hybrids significantly increased when N-fertilizer went up to 180 kg ha −1 .…”

“…It has a positive impact on plant height, lodging resistance, inter-node length, bending strength, and enhances tolerance capacity to lodging in rice [236,237]. Application of silicon-enhanced lodging-associated traits like panicle length, stem length, plant height, and the third internode length, but the fourth internode length was decreased which is vital for resistance against lodging [238]. Silicon solution significantly reduced lodging percentage of rice by enhancing stem breaking resistance and inter-nodal length [239].…”

“…Silicon solution significantly reduced lodging percentage of rice by enhancing stem breaking resistance and inter-nodal length [239]. It was revealed that the silicon application could be distributed between the third and fourth internode, which enhanced the lodging resistance [238].…”

“…A significant increase in plant height and culm length of rice plants treated with Si is in line with Salman et al (2012). A significant improvement could be due to changes in internode length that contributed to changes in rice plant height (Zhang et al 2017).…”
