The process of globalization has brought about changes that manifest themselves in different areas of human life. One of the main positive aspects of the process of globalization affecting human quality of life is regional development. This can be measured through selected socio-economic indicators. However, regional development is not the only aspect that affects human quality of life. The negative aspects of the globalization process, such as illegal migration, have made security aspects more and more influential on quality of life. One of security aspect that negatively affects a human’s quality of life, as well as the whole perception of the process of globalization, is migration and related crime committed by foreigners in a particular area. As the objective of the regional development is to promote human quality of life, it is also necessary to deal with the issue of security in this context. The paper deals with the examination of selected socio-economic aspects of regional development in the context of security. The aim of the paper is to reveal relations between selected indicators of regional development in order to increase the stimulation of socio-economic aspects and the level of safety and thus to increase the quality of citizen’s life.

This paper proposes a research plan to investigate the research methods issues (i.e. research design, sampling methods, data collection methods, data analysis techniques, measurement scales, and reliability/validity tests, among others) used in business students’ thesis/dissertation works in institutions of higher learning. Specifically, the proposed research aims to help in understanding the dominant research methods used by thesis/dissertation research students in the field of business management in institutions of higher learning, shed light on possible relevant research methodology issues in business management education and proffer managerial and theoretical recommendations that will assist research methodology in business disciplines in institutions of higher learning. Among other things, the proposed investigation is expected to help in assessing the quality and relevance of business research works in higher institutions; assist in repositioning business education curricula to align with academic, regulatory and industry expectations; improve the quality and relevance of research works undertaken in business schools in institutions of higher learning; and stimulate research in cognate areas.

Research background: Globalization affects the daily lives of every individual, and therefore of the society in which he lives. In the coming years, almost 80% of the population will live in cities, which will have an impact on the socio-economic development of cities. These facts can lead to a deterioration of the security situation. Therefore, cities focused on the design of urban development, and thus on the elimination of undesirable factors. Purpose of the article: Cities around the world began to attend with architectural modifications of spaces, which could positively influence socio-economic factors. Changing the environment can reduce crime in localities. The purpose of the article is to analyze the impact of selected approaches on the quality of citizens’ life and to point out the possibilities of crime prevention through environmental design. Methods: Solution that deals with influencing the urban environment is the CPTED method. This approach focuses on the urban space and the principles of the fight against crime. The article describes the principles of CPTED application in urban space, and ways of its possible use. The methods of economic analysis and mathematical statistics will also evaluate the economic impacts on the budget of the entity using the approach. Findings & Value added: Due to globalization, built-up areas in cities are expanding. These changes have implications for socio-economic factors. The findings can be used in the design of new as well as existing urban spaces by public administration entities (especially regional and local governments), but also by private developers.
