Application of Theophylline Anhydrous as Inhibitor of Acid Corrosion of Aluminum

Abstract: HE INHIBITIVE effect of theophylline anhydrous on aluminum corrosion in hydrochloric acid solution was investigated using chemical and electrochemical techniques. It was found that the compound acts as good corrosion inhibitor with inhibition efficiency more than 99.9%. The inhibition efficiency was found to increase with inhibitor concentration and exposure time. On the other hand, it decreases by rising the temperature. The inhibition action was discussed in view of adsorption of the organic compound molecul… Show more

“…Thus, the inhibitor of our interest is poly(p-phenylenediamine) PpPDA. It is safe and echo-friendly with respect to the corresponding applied monomer [51] or other applied organic inhibitors [52,53]. Besides, the studied inhibitor was prepared and polymerized at the surface of boron phosphate pigment before its incorporation within the paint formulations, i.e., it acts as homogeneous and regular leachable species within the coating system providing long term performance against corrosion process.…”

“…EIS tests are performed in 0.6M NaCl solution to study the anti-corrosion properties of the composite coatings obtained at different immersion times [12,28]. Figure 2 a-c. exemplified the Bode, phase angle and Nyquist (in situ) plots of substrate and composite coatings prepared at 30 mA cm -2 without and with 0.2g L -1 at different immersion times.…”

“…In 1985, Abdel Aal and Wahdan [12] studied purine as an inhibitor of corrosion of steel in HClO 4 solution. Until now, they have been tested as corrosion inhibitors for numerous metals and alloys such as steel [13,14], aluminum [15,16], tin, indium, both pure and in the form of alloys [17,18], titanium [19], Mg alloys [20,21], copper [22][23][24][25], brass [26], nickel [27], and alloys such as Sn-Ag alloy [28] and CoCrMo alloy [29]. Purine compounds exhibit an inhibiting effect toward metal corrosion in various aqueous media but also in hydrocarbon media such as highly refined naphthenic mineral base oil [30].…”
