Application of vitamin A palmitate eye gel and nurse value of Watson’s theory of caring in children with dry eye after strabismus surgery: a randomized trial

Abstract: Background: After strabismus surgery, the local swelling of conjunctival wound will affect the uniform distribution of tears on the ocular surface, and the inflammatory reaction will affect the stability of tear film, which will easily lead to iatrogenic dry eye. This study aimed to investigate the effect of vitamin A palmitate (VAP) eye gel application in dry eye and the advantages of Watson's theory of caring. Methods: Two hundred and forty children with dry eye after strabismus surgery treated in our hospita… Show more

“…It also promotes intercellular connections and reverses keratosis of corneal epithelial cells. Vitamin A palmitate eye gel reduces the incidence of dry eye syndrome after strabismus surgery and increases the density of goblet cells, improving dry eye caused by prostaglandin analog [ 39 , 40 ]. Altiparmak et al demonstrated found that 6 months after using artificial tear drops, ST of TAO patients with dry eye syndrome increased from 3.73 ± 1.85 mm to 10.73 ± 5.71 mm and BUT increased from 6.21 ± 1.73 s to 12.9 ± 3.96 s [ 41 ].…”

“…Retinol palmitate ophthalmic solution has also been proven bene cial to the objective signs and subjective symptoms of dry eye syndrome [46] . In addition, vitamin A palmitate eye gel reduces the incidence of dry eye syndrome after strabismus surgery and increases the density of goblet cells, improving dry eye caused by prostaglandin analog [43,47] . Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate the e cacy and safety of vitamin A palmitate eye gel compared to sodium hyaluronate eye drop in mild or moderate-to-severe inactive TAO patients with dry eye syndrome and provide new evidence for the treatment of dry eye syndrome in TAO.…”
