Applications of fuzzy sets and approximate reasoning

Abstract: This paper discusses recent applications of fuzzy sets and the theory of approximate reasoning. The primary focus is on fuzzy logic control (FLC). We begin with a brief history of the key ideas, a survey of recent applications, and a discussion of the genesis of FLC in Japan. We then turn to a study of the general principles of FLC, considering it as a combination of ideas from conventional control theory, artificial intelligence, andfuzzy sets theory. We next provide a detailed analysis of a simple applicatio… Show more

“…Due to imperfections of PID controllers, the possibility of replacing a PID controller with the FLC is proposed [18]. Since human knowledge is used for designing fuzzy controllers, there are many ways to design FLCs.…”

“…Since the late 1980s, control has become the area to which fuzzy systems are most widely applied today. This wide and diverse range of successful applications of fuzzy technologies has been responsible for the increasing interest in the subject area [2]. In the 1090s, fuzzy logic issues have been introduced to the electrical engineering curriculum in tertiary institutions [3], [4].…”
