Appraising Effectiveness of Building Information Management (BIM) in Project Management

Abstract: The Iranian construction industry has long been criticized for being inefficient. It has been claimed that 80 percent of all content within the construction process is the same for all projects and there are therefore huge opportunities for improvements. The project manager is essential for the successful delivery of construction projects. The purpose of this paper is to analysis how BIM (Building Information Modelling) can be utilized by project managers as a good tool to simulate project condition to avoid r… Show more

“…The dimensions or elements of TBR in BIM-SC that agree with the complexity and requirements of trust development in a BIM-SC, as identified and validated in this study, are broadly consistent with the findings by Jaffar et al (2011: 196), Singh, Gu and Wang (2011: 137), Porwal and Hewage (2013: 208), Hooper and Ekholm (2011), Fazli, Fathi, Enferadi, Fazli and Fathi (2014: 1119, Bryde, Broquetas, and Volm (2013: 975), Gilligan and Kunz (2007: 39), Ilozor and Kelly (2012: 28), Kuiper and Dominik (2013: 8), Miettinen and Paavola (2014:87), Chen and Luo (2014: 67), and Khalfan et al (2004: 2). Jaffar et al (2011) identify trusting and trustworthy behaviours such as racism, tribalism, and professional stereotypes as factors of conflict in construction project delivery.…”

“…The study revealed the BIM implementation in quality control and specified a unified solution to develop the existing quality control methods using BIM work environment.Fazli A., Fathi S., Enferadi H., Fazli M. and Fathi B. [11] analyzed the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) as a great tool for modeling project situation to evade unnecessary work and loss of time & money. The study determined that it is usually difficult for project managers to view applications because they have lesser knowledge of BIM.…”

“…Finally, the risks and future challenges of BIM for the construction industry are examined. Fazli et al (2014) assessed the effectiveness of BIM in project management. For a long time, the construction industry in Iran has been criticized for its lack of efficiency; it has been claimed that 80 percent of the data in the process of construction is similar for all of the projects; therefore, there are vast opportunities for improvement, and the presence of a project management is essential for the successful delivery of construction projects.…”
