Short Communication: Growth response and dependency of endangered nedun tree species (Pericopsis mooniana) affected by indigenous Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi inoculation. Nusantara Bioscience 9: 57-61. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) were isolated from the rhizosphere of local nedun tree or kayu kuku (Pericopsis mooniana (Thw.) Thw.) and based on the results of previous studies which showed that inoculation with AMF mix enhanced growth and nutrient uptake of seedlings P. mooniana on ultisol and serpentine soil media. Thus study aimed to determine the effectiveness of indigenous AMF on the growth and dependence of P. mooniana. P. mooniana seedlings were grown on ultisol soil medium and inoculated with and without AMF (Clareodeglomus etunicatum, Glomus sp. (HA), Glomus sp. (KDI)) and mixed (C. etunicatum, Glomus sp. (HA), Glomus sp. (KDI) for 12 weeks under greenhouse conditions. The results showed that inoculation with Glomus sp. (HA) significantly increased plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, dry weight (roots, shoots, total), nodulation, root length and leaf length. It was better than results on control of P. mooniana seedling but it was not significantly different from other types of AMF, except on Glomus sp. (HA) on plant height. The width of the leaf and shoot-root ratio was not influenced by the AMF. P. mooniana has a high dependency (<75%) with mycorrhizal dependency (MD) value ranging from 54-68%. Glomus sp. (HA) and other types of AMF have potential to be developed to support the conservation of P. mooniana.

Effectiveness of indigenous arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and the dependence of legumes to AMF application are determined by the compatibility of AMF and the host plant. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of indigenous AMF on growth, biomass and nutrient uptake of 5 months seedling of kayu kuku (Pericopsis mooniana (Thw.) Thw) grown in greenhouse. The six tested indigenous AMF were isolated from four rhizospheres of kayu kuku at Kolaka District: FMA-HA (natural forests Tanggetada, FMA-BJ (Bali Jaya village plantations), FMA-CA (Lamedai Nature Reserve, FMA-Vale (PT. Vale Indonesia Tbk.), and other two rhizospheres from Kendari city: FMA-UHO (park area of Halu Oleo University), FMA-KG (urban forest in Southeast Sulawesi Governor's office). As comparison, there were also included a control (without AMF), a mycofer and an isolate from Kendari (kdr03). The study was designed in a randomized block design with 9 treatments and five replications. The results of study showed that in general AMF inoculations could increase the growth and nutrient uptake of the kayu kuku seedling. FMA-KG and FMA-UHO increased height, stem diameter, number of leaves, and root nodules. They also increased total dry weight at 260% and 281% above the control. In addition, FMA-KG increased total chlorophyll and nutrient accumulation. Levels of C organic and total N were not significantly affected by AMF treatment. Levels of total P, K, Ca and Mg of kayu kuku seedling were generally higher in control, but nutrient accumulation was higher in AMF treatment. There was a strong and significant correlation between nutrient accumulation and kayu kuku seedling biomass.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi to enhance the growth of tropical endangered species Pterocarpus indicus and Pericopsis mooniana in post gold mine field in Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 22: 3844-3853. Gold mining activities contribute to the national economy, but have a serious impact on forest and environmental degradation and pose a threat to tree species in the tropics. Reforestation of post-gold mining with tropical legume tree species is threatened with extinction. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi are effective in conservation of endangered plants and restoration of degraded land. The objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of native AM Fungi inoculation on the growth of Pterocarpus indicus and Pericopsis mooniana in nurseries and post-gold mining fields. P. indicus and P. mooniana seedlings were inoculated with Glomus claroideum Schenk & Smith, Glomus coronatum Giovann., and mixed AMF (G. claroideum, G. coronatum). Uninoculated seedlings were used as control treatment, and they were maintained for 4 months under greenhouse conditions. After 4 months in greenhouse, seedlings were transferred to post-gold mine and planted for 4 months. The percentage of AMF colonization, plant growth, nutrient content and uptake of N, P, K, Fe, Mn were measured after 4 months both in the greenhouse and the field. The percentage of AMF colonization under greenhouse conditions in P. indicus and P. mooniana ranged 5.67-75.3% and 2.2-41.2%. All AMF colonization tended to have higher shoot height, leaf numbers and nodules, plant dry weight and N, P, K content under greenhouse conditions. Shoot height, stem diameter, leaf dry weight, N, P, K, Mn and Fe under field conditions had higher inoculated seedlings than control four months after planting. AMF could be used to conserve endangered tree species in post-gold mining reforestation in the tropics.
