Despite some fragmentation of a number of provinces, 1 the boundaries of regions as a whole are quite stable (Sng et al, 2018), which is facilitated by their economic and geographical integrity, the peculiarities of traditions and way of life, significant (in a number of cases) linguistic differences with a common hieroglyphic writing system, gravitation towards the intraregional economic center, and the presence of specific production skills of the population. Today, there are 31 regions in China (22 provinces, 5 ARs, 2 and 4 municipalities 3 ), each of which has a wide range of rights, has its own legislature and government, while being subordinate to the central authorities.…”
