Arteries of the Hindfoot of the Llama (Lama glama)

Abstract: The objective of this study was to describe the arterial distribution of the hindfoot of the llama (Lama glama). Ten adult llamas, preserved in 6% formalin solution at 0 degree C, were dissected. The arterial system was perfused with a solution of 14% coloured plaster; the venous system was perfused with a solution of 17% coloured industrial gelatin. Angiographies were also obtained. In the llama, the arterial distribution is of the saphenous type and this simple sort of irrigation could be used as a didactic … Show more

“…The present study documented that the main blood supply of the Dromedary Camel digit was the A. digitalis plantaris communis III and the A. metatarsae plantaris III . While [ 12 , 13 ] in the Dromedary Camel and llama denoted that the A. digitalis plantaris communis III was the main blood supply of the hind limb digit. However, the blood supply of the camel forelimb digit was derived from the A. metacarpae plamaris III and the A. digitalis plamaris communis III .…”

“…Most arteries and a few small arterial branches of the limb in the Dromedary Camel were studied by macroscopic anatomy and angiography [ 2 , 11 ]. In Llama and Dromedary Camel, the caudal branch of the saphenous artery produces the plantar arteries and continues distally [ 12 , 13 ].…”

“…6). Su distribución hasta donde se pudo observar en la alpaca se ajusta más a los resultados obtenidos en los estudios sobre las arterias del pie de la llama (Graziotti et al, 2000), presentando diferencias importantes con el canino, equino y bovino (Getty et al, 1990;Shively, 1993;König et al, 2005), respecto al origen y ramificación de varias arterias involucradas.…”
