Arteriovenous Malformation of the Bronchial Artery Showing Endobronchial Protrusion.

Abstract: The bronchoscopic findings of arteriovenous malformation of the bronchial artery are compared with findings on angiography and pathology. A non-pulsatile protrusion with engorged vessels on its glossy and unevensurface wasseen at the distal portion of the right anterior segmental bronchus. A bronchial angiogram demonstrated that the protrusion corresponded to the hypervascular area of convoluted vessels. Histologically, a glossy, uneven surface and engorged vessels represented normal mucosaoverlaying an extram… Show more

“…Primary racemose hemangioma of the bronchial artery has been considered to be a congenital abnormality, but its genesis and natural course remain uncertain. It is characterized by enlarged and convoluted bronchial arteries and shunts to the pulmonary artery or vein (2,3), so that these were occasionally described as cases of arterio-venous malformation of the bronchial artery (6,7). In the present case, dilated bronchial arteries along the bronchus and bronchial-pulmonary artery shunt were observed but no inflammatory infiltrate was detected pathologically in the resected specimen.…”
